MISSIONS/ EVANGELISM
We should follow the parting instructions of Jesus Christ to "Go into all the world" by providing opportunities for the congregation to witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as they reach out to the un-churched and serve those in need.

The Missions Ministry Team meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm with Elder Linda Burrell. The following information is on organizations that Bethel supports both hands on and financially.

As a service to our community, we offer emergency food assistance. This assistance is available during office hours, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

Our Mission Focus for March is Sunset Gap Community Center

Since the death of Martin Riley, SSG has a new director. The Board of Directors appointed Josh Dunn (who was Work Camp Supervisor) as director and hired Karen Hekel as new Office Manager.
The purpose of Sunset Gap Community Center is to extend the Gospel of Jesus Christ, by providing programs that contribute to physical, social and spiritual growth while maintaining teaching (preschool program), training and service without prejudices so that all will know the dignity and worth that is theirs as a people of God.
Iva Winebarger will share a Minute for Missions on the 14th. Also, we will be taking up an offering to support this ministry throughout the month. Envelopes are provided in the pew racks for your convenience. Last year we were able to donate over $1000 that enabled us to go on a mission weekend to SSG and do needed maintenance on the 100-year-old buildings and grounds and to help Josh get the facilities ready for work camps. The Missions Ministry Team is planning this years mission trip to SSG for April 22nd and 23rd. More details later. Last year we had 15 to go on that trip.

The Missions Committee is planning to coordinate relief efforts with the Presbyterian Church USA Disaster Relief Fund to benefit the people of Haiti. We are going to accept donations through the month of March. If you would like to participate, you can make your checks out to Bethel Presbyterian Church and notate on the check that it is for the Haiti Relief Project. The Presbyterian Women have already given us a donation of $100. Please help the people of Haiti by contributing to this worthwhile endeavor. If you have any questions, please see Linda Burrell.

Regularly Sponsored Missions

Kingsport Community Ministry Center (KCMC)

KCMC was organized a 25 years ago in January by area churches to meet the acute needs of area residents who are unable to pay for rent, utilities and prescriptions.  In many cases these financial needs are too great for KCMC to deal with alone.  Therefore, contact is made with other agencies such as the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, Neighborhood Service Center and others in order to pool assets and meet the needs of these clients.  Our clients range from a mother trying to raise three children on welfare and food stamps who is faced with an eviction notice because she chose to pay for necessary car repairs rather then the rent, to a resident at the Salvation Army who had no money to pay for the needed antibiotics prescribed by the Wellmont emergency room doctor.  These are the folks Christ instructed us to care for.

The Shepherd Center currently provides services to more than 2,100 older adults and caregivers. Programs and services include transportation to doctor's appointments, outpatient physical therapy, lab work and personal shopping. Volunteers run errands to pick up medicines and groceries for those who are homebound. The Shepherd Center offers a minor home repair program and a medical equipment loan, which is one of the most requested services.  Wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, canes, bath benches, transfer chairs, as well as Hoyer lifts, trapeze bars, travel chairs and bedside toilets are all loaned free of charge, as the items are available.
The Shepherd Center office is located in the former Dickson Elementary School, 1701 Virginia Avenue. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. You may contact the center by phone at 423-392-4514 or email at shepherd2@embarqmail.com.
