MISSIONS/ EVANGELISM
We should follow the parting instructions of Jesus Christ to "Go into all the world" by providing opportunities for the congregation to witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as they reach out to the un-churched and serve those in need.

Our Mission Focus for September

Kingsport Community Ministry Center (KCMC)

KCMC was organized a 25 years ago in January by area churches to meet the acute needs of area residents who are unable to pay for rent, utilities and prescriptions.  In many cases these financial needs are too great for KCMC to deal with alone.  Therefore, contact is made with other agencies such as the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, Neighborhood Service Center and others in order to pool assets and meet the needs of these clients.  Our clients range from a mother trying to raise three children on welfare and food stamps who is faced with an eviction notice because she chose to pay for necessary car repairs rather then the rent, to a resident at the Salvation Army who had no money to pay for the needed antibiotics prescribed by the Wellmont emergency room doctor.  These are the folks Christ instructed us to care for.

 Regularly Sponsored Missions

The Shepherd Center currently provides services to more than 2,100 older adults and caregivers. Programs and services include transportation to doctor's appointments, outpatient physical therapy, lab work and personal shopping. Volunteers run errands to pick up medicines and groceries for those who are homebound. The Shepherd Center offers a minor home repair program and a medical equipment loan, which is one of the most requested services.  Wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, canes, bath benches, transfer chairs, as well as Hoyer lifts, trapeze bars, travel chairs and bedside toilets are all loaned free of charge, as the items are available.
The Shepherd Center office is located in the former Dickson Elementary School, 1701 Virginia Avenue. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. You may contact the center by phone at 423-392-4514 or email at shepherd2@embarqmail.com.
